Visas for entry
Five published entry purposes. Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality and exemptions.
Tourist entry & visits

For joining family with an indefinite or undetermined intended stay. The published category waives the usual need to prove ties to the home country; ongoing status still needs assessment.

For athletes with a contract or employment letter. A National Sports Council letter may also be required.

Visitor’s Permit Extension
Request an additional 30 days through Immigration when extending a holiday or exploring settlement. Remain within the permit expiry date. Paid or unpaid employment, business, or professional activity needs the Director’s consent; a visitor extension alone is not work authorization.
Other routes & official resources
These are separate legal statuses or documents, rather than ordinary entry visas.
Citizenship by registration or descent
Registration may follow five years holding permanent residence, with limits on absences, or at least one year of marriage to a Belizean who held citizenship at marriage. The published residence limits are no more than 30 consecutive days or three total months abroad in any twelve-month period, subject to listed employment/medical considerations. Descent generally covers people born abroad to a Belizean parent, with limited historical provisions. The official page states Guatemalan nationals do not qualify through registration; these cases need specialist assessment. Investment and QRP status do not automatically confer citizenship.
Belize Border Crossing Card
Available only to Belizean and Mexican nationals. It facilitates border travel; it is not a general relocation or employment route. Identity evidence and a compliant photograph are required. Children under 16 need a parent or guardian.
Refugee protection
People in Belize who need international protection may approach the Refugees Department or seek referral through an immigration or police officer. The application is made in person. The current department page allows applications after irregular entry and does not make identity documents mandatory. Contact the Refugees Department directly for protection assistance.
Transit needs should be checked against the official nationality and entry rules. Special permits and conditions-to-remain require individual Immigration assessment. Historical amnesty programs are not presented here as open routes.
